A TRANQUIL Moment

Wooden bridge across the Egrenne river at Lonlay l'Abbaye
The past days and weeks have been so full of sorrow and pain. Shootings and destruction, hate and madness. Let's take a moment to reflect and gather our thoughts at one of my favorite spots in Lonlay l'Abbaye, the bridge over the river Egrenne behind the Mairie. Below is a short video of the narrow river near this spot, with the old cider press and the 11th century Abbey on either side. Nature heals what man destroys.
“A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”

Hi, I am looking at your house in Lonlay L'Abbaye at this moment (my familiy is at "Katies" for a 3 week holiday). The Craftsmen are very busy and Lonlay is calm and peaceful as you described ist. Cheers, Bernard

So glad to hear that you and your family are enjoying the village and Katie's house! I will post new pictures soon from those hardworking craftsmen (and craftswoman Nicola). Have a beautiful holiday!

Ellen-- I have enjoyed your blog. A question for you. Do you have an e-mail contact for Mayor Derouet? I visited the village last September while researching a book about the US airmen honored there at the War Memorial statue. My uncle, Gerald Gillies, was the tail gunner on the downed B-17, The Chow-hound. His name appears in your pictures of the memorial plaque. I have additional questions for the Mayor but don't seem to have any contact information. Many thanks for any help that you might provide.

Hi, Bruce - I'm honored to hear from a family member of the Chowhound crew. We think of them every time we are in Lonlay. I don't have a personal email for the mayor, but I believe you can reach him at the official address: mairie.lonlay-labbaye@wanadoo.fr. Or definitely through the contact page at http://www.lonlaylabbaye.com/contact.htm. Good luck!
